The ABB Education Trust operates independently from the ABB Group to support South African students pursuing careers in engineering. ABB’s Process Automation division provides innovative solutions across industries, including automation, electrification, digital technologies, control systems, software, measurement & analytics, and marine solutions.

The Trust actively contributes to local communities and empowers students at various educational levels, with a focus on enabling Black Female students to pursue higher education in engineering fields.

Fields of Study Covered

The bursary is open to Black Female students pursuing:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Preference is given to students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Diploma.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be a Black Female (African, Coloured, or Indian as defined by B-BBEE Act 46 of 2013)
  • Must be studying in one of the listed fields
  • Must have completed 1st year of study with a minimum overall average of 60%
  • Must be entering 2nd year or higher of study in 2026
  • Must be enrolled at a recognised South African university
  • Total household income must be less than R600 000 per annum
  • Black Female students with disabilities are encouraged to apply

What the Bursary Covers

The bursary provides financial support for:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees
  • Textbooks
  • Accommodation or travel costs (depending on need)

The bursary does not fund repeat courses or outstanding balances from previous years.
