The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2026 academic year. The bursary is aimed at undergraduate students pursuing Dietetics studies, particularly those who are financially disadvantaged and passionate about nutrition and community wellbeing.
About the Bursary Provider – ADSA
The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) is the official professional organisation for Registered Dietitians in the country. Its mission is two-fold:
- To support and represent the interests of dietitians in South Africa, and
- To promote better nutritional health and well-being across communities nationwide.
Founded in 1987, ADSA operates as a registered non-profit organisation, representing over a thousand members across eight regional branches, including Eastern Cape, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Northern Province, Gauteng South, Pretoria, Free State, and Mpumalanga.
Fields Covered
ADSA is offering bursaries for the 2026 academic year, specifically for students studying undergraduate Dietetics.
The bursary programme was established in 2013, with the purpose of supporting disadvantaged students who may not have had the financial means to pursue Dietetics as a career.
Coverage Value & Obligations
The ADSA bursary provides partial funding up to R30 000 per year, covering:
- Registration fees
- Textbooks
- Accommodation
- Other study-related expenses
Additional Benefits:
- Bursary recipients receive free ADSA student membership for the entire duration of the bursary.
- Funds are paid directly into the university account after receiving a formal fee statement.
Eligibility Requirements for the ADSA Bursary
To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be studying towards an undergraduate Dietetics qualification
- Must currently be in 1st year, or have completed 1st year
- Must be entering the 2nd year of study in 2026
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must be passionate about food science and health
- Must show leadership qualities and participation in school or community activities
