The Etion Create Bursary, launched by Etion Create, a leading original design manufacturer in advanced electronics and embedded systems, addresses critical skills gaps by supporting talented students studying engineering in South Africa. This programme empowers youth to complete their engineering studies in electronics and computer engineering and advance South Africa’s technological innovation.

By providing comprehensive financial assistance to eligible students in their second and third years of BEng (Electronics) and BEng Computer Engineering, Etion Create invests in the future of engineering talent and contributes to national industrial growth.

Fields of Study Supported

Eligible fields include

Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics

Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering

Only students enrolled full-time in the second or third year of these specific disciplines at recognised South African universities may apply.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply applicants must

Be a South African citizen with a valid identification

Have completed Grade 12 with strong results in mathematics and science

Currently studying full-time in either the second or third year of BEng (Electronics) or BEng (Computer Engineering)

Submit proven academic performance, including matric transcripts and second or third year university marks for the applicable engineering programme

Note that this bursary is not a salaried position. Only study-related expenses are covered.

Failure to meet any of these requirements will lead to disqualification. First-year students and applicants outside the stated disciplines are not eligible.

What the Bursary Covers

The Etion Create Bursary covers all essential academic expenses for the programme. It includes full payment of registration and tuition fees directly to the institution. It also provides support for accommodation, meal vouchers, and prescribed textbooks.

While the bursary does not provide a salary, it ensures that study-related financial burdens are lifted so that recipients can concentrate fully on academic performance.

Selection and Assessment

Applicants are evaluated on both academic performance and innovation potential in their discipline. The programme supports only two students per year. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in mathematics and science as well as strong university marks in the required engineering courses.

Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews in November. Successful applicants are expected to undertake vacation work during the following year as part of exposure to real-world engineering environments.

The decision of Etion Create is final, and no appeals are considered. Only shortlisted applicants receive feedback on their application status.

Obligations for Successful Recipients

Recipients must maintain full-time university status throughout the academic year and continue to perform academically. They must participate in interviews and complete vacation work as required, usually during university breaks.

There is no formal requirement to repay the bursary, but the expectation is that recipients pursue their engineering studies diligently. If a recipient withdraws from their programme prematurely or fails to meet expectations, they may be required to forfeit remaining benefits.

How to Apply

Applicants must apply online via the Etion Create career portal. They are required to enter a reference code in their application to ensure proper processing.

Alongside the online form, applicants must submit certified copies of their South African identity document, matric certificate with strong mathematics and science results, and academic transcripts for second or third year university semester marks. They will also need to confirm their current study status in the BEng programme.

Applicants are advised to quote the correct reference number to avoid delays. Only applications that include all required documentation will be considered.

Timeline and Deadlines

The bursary cycle corresponds with the calendar year from January to December. Applications close on 17 October 2025. Interviews are scheduled for November 2025, and vacation work is arranged for the successful candidates for 2026.

Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted, and only those who are shortlisted will receive a response.

Final Thoughts

The Etion Create Bursary presents a remarkable opportunity for aspiring engineers in South Africa eager to advance their studies in electronics or computer engineering. By covering tuition, accommodation, meals, and study materials, while also offering professional exposure through interviews and vacation work, the bursary reduces financial barriers and fosters practical experience.

If you are a second or third year engineering student committed to innovation and growth within the engineering sector, this bursary could be the catalyst for launching your career in advanced digital technology.
