The Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (LPFF), formerly known as the Attorneys Fidelity Fund, provides financial assistance to deserving law students and junior legal practitioners in South Africa. Designed to support the final years of undergraduate LLB studies and postgraduate legal qualifications, this bursary is part of the Fund’s commitment to ensuring professional integrity and accessibility in the legal field.
What the Bursary Covers
The LPFF bursary is awarded specifically for tuition fees. It does not cover textbooks, accommodation, or travel costs. The bursary is typically awarded for a maximum of two academic years, subject to continued academic performance and compliance with bursary conditions. The exact funding amount is determined annually, but historically, it has ranged between R7,000 and R8,000 per year.
Who Can Apply
For Undergraduate LLB Students:
- Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
- Must be in the second or third year of the LLB programme.
- Must be studying at a recognized South African university.
- Must have no more than two years of study remaining.
- Preference is given to students with good academic performance and financial need.
For Postgraduate Legal Practitioners:
- Must hold a relevant undergraduate law qualification.
- Must be registered as a candidate or practicing attorney.
- Must be enrolled in a postgraduate legal programme.
- Must show academic merit and/or financial need.

To apply, follow these steps:
- Download the correct bursary application form and rules from the LPFF website.
- Complete the form and prepare the following documents:
- Recent passport-sized photograph
- Certified copy of South African ID or permanent residency permit
- Matric certificate and latest academic transcript
- Faculty Dean testimonial confirming financial need and academic progress
- Postgraduates must include a salary slip and full academic record
- Submit the completed application via post or hand-delivery (email or fax submissions are not accepted).

Selection and Renewal
Successful applicants will be contacted after review. If you are awarded the bursary, you must accept it within six months. Renewals for a second year are not automatic and are subject to academic performance and compliance with the Fund’s conditions.
