About the SANRAL High School Scholarship Programme
SANRAL is calling on eligible high school learners to apply for the SANRAL High School Scholarship for the 2026 academic year. This opportunity is open to students entering Grades 8 through 12. Scholarships will be granted based on a combination of academic performance, financial need, and other relevant criteria outlined in SANRAL’s Bursary Policy.
More About the SANRAL High School Scholarship Programme – Expenses Covered, Other Benefits, and Selection
The SANRAL High School Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support, covering the following, where necessary: registration fees, school fees, boarding school costs, school and sports uniforms, learning materials such as books and stationery, transportation from reputable school transport providers, and additional Mathematics and Science lessons. School tuition fees will be paid directly to the institution. Any other approved costs will be reimbursed to parents or guardians upon submission of original proof of payment and a completed claim form. Scholarship recipients will also benefit from learner support services aimed at enhancing academic performance. These include study preparation assistance, psychological counselling, career coaching, and subject-specific support. Career guidance and holistic development resources will be provided. Applicants who are successful will be contacted upon conclusion of the final selection process. If no feedback is received by 31 January 2026, the application should be considered unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements for the SANRAL High School Scholarship
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be entering Grade 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 in 2026
- Must be registered at a recognised and endorsed high school in South Africa
- Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60 percent
- Must maintain a strong academic performance
- The household income must be less than R550 000 per annum
- Applications from students with disabilities are strongly encouraged
How to Apply for the SANRAL High School Scholarship
Applications must be submitted online via the SANRAL scholarship portal. The following supporting documentation must be included. Incomplete applications may result in disqualification:
- Certified copy of your South African ID document or birth certificate
- Certified copy of your June 2025 academic results
- A motivational letter written by the applicant explaining why they deserve the scholarship and providing personal background (maximum two pages)
- A letter of recommendation from your school principal
- A motivational letter from your parent or guardian supporting your application
- Certified copies of your parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
- Certified proof of income for your parents or guardians, such as recent payslips or an affidavit if unemployed or self-employed (not older than three months)
- Proof of residential address, such as a municipal water and electricity bill
