The Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd (Bakwena) is responsible for the construction, management, maintenance, and upgrading of two major South African highways — the N1 and N4 routes. These vital transport corridors cover a combined distance of over 385 kilometres, connecting Tshwane to Bela-Bela in the north, and stretching westward through Rustenburg and Zeerust to the Botswana border.

Fields of Study Covered

The Bakwena Bursary Programme 2026 is open to students pursuing undergraduate studies in any field at a recognised South African university.
Preference will be given to students residing within 6 km of the Bakwena N1N4 route, covering areas between Tshwane and Bela-Bela, and westwards through Rustenburg and Zeerust up to the Botswana border.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be currently enrolled in undergraduate studies in any field
  • Be entering your 2nd year or higher of university in 2026
  • Be registered at an accredited South African university
  • Have achieved a minimum average of 60% in your university studies
  • Preferably reside within 6 km of the Bakwena N1N4 route

What the Bursary Covers

The Bakwena Bursary provides partial financial support, covering:

  • Tuition fees up to R35,000, paid directly to the institution
