About the Bursary
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment invites high schoolers to apply for the bursary program each year. The bursaries are awarded to students from the following fields;
Biodiversity and Conservation, Chemicals and Waste Management, Climate Change, Air Quality, and Sustainability Development, Fisheries Management, Oceans and Coats, Forestry Management, and other Environmental Programs.
Eligibility Criteria
You must fulfill the following requirements to apply for the DFFE bursary.
- You must be a South African national.
- You must have completed Matric or currently be enrolled in the final year of Matric.
- You must be studying full-time in one of the listed undergraduate qualifications. Or, they may intend to study toward a qualification in one of the listed fields.
- You must be studying or intend to study at a recognized and accredited institution in South Africa.
- You must not be an employee of DFFE.
- You must not be employed.
- You must not have been a part of any public service internship program.
- Please note that preferences will be given to students with disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Documents Required
When submitting the application for the DFFE bursary, one must provide the following supporting documents. Submit clear and scanned copies of all the documents. Any missing document will result in your disqualification from the application process.
- South African ID document (certified copy).
- Matric certificate (certified copy), for students who have completed Matric.
- Matric latest results (certified copy) for students currently enrolled in Matric.
- Recent academic records if they are currently enrolled in a tertiary public institution.
- Proof of registration. It should be on the institution’s letterhead.
- Parents of guardian’s ID documents.
- Parents of guardian’s proof of income. It should be the latest payslips if they are employed, SASSA pension proof, affidavit if they are unemployed or deceased.
- A motivational letter stating your academic achievements, career goals, and why you should be awarded this bursary.
- Research proposal if pursuing an Honors or Masters qualification.
