About the Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary Programme – Fields Covered
Old Mutual is inviting students to apply for their Actuarial Bursary for the 2026 academic year. The bursary is for students pursuing Actuarial Science at the following universities:
- University of Cape Town
- Stellenbosch University
- University of Pretoria
- University of the Witwatersrand
- University of the Free State
- North-West University
- University of Johannesburg
- University of KwaZulu-Natal
The programme seeks students who are highly motivated, mathematically gifted, and who enjoy problem-solving.

Eligibility Requirements for the Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Must intend to study Actuarial Science at one of the listed universities
- Minimum 80% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy)
- Minimum 60% in English HL or 70% in English FAL
- Minimum 70% in all other subjects
- Must be committed to qualifying as an actuary and working at Old Mutual post-graduation
- Preference will be given to underrepresented groups, students with disabilities, or those with financial need

Selection for the Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary Programme
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 30 November 2025 to complete psychometric assessments. If no communication is received by that date, consider the application unsuccessful.
Finalists will be invited to an interview and selection day. Provisional offers will be confirmed once final Matric results and university admission for Actuarial Science are verified.
