SARB’s responsibilities include issuing and destroying currency, managing national gold and foreign reserves, overseeing the national payment system, and regulating financial institutions. It also acts as the banker to the government and a lender of last resort, while managing exchange rate control systems.

About the SARB Scholarship Programme – Fields Covered

SARB invites Fine Arts students to apply for their Art Scholarship for the 2026 academic year. This fully funded opportunity is aimed at supporting talented individuals who wish to advance their studies in the field of Fine Arts. Scholarships will be awarded for the following qualifications:

  • 1 year Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts (after completing a 3-year undergraduate diploma)
  • 4-year Undergraduate Degree in Fine Arts (final year only)
  • Honours Degree in Fine Arts (post-3-year undergraduate degree)
  • Master’s Degree in Fine Arts

More About the SARB Scholarship Programme – Selection

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted within one month of the closing date. If no response is received by that time, the application must be considered unsuccessful. Finalists will be invited for interviews. Successful applicants will be required to sign a scholarship agreement with the South African Reserve Bank.

Eligibility Requirements for the SARB Scholarship

To qualify for the SARB Art Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be under the age of 35
  • Must be registered for one of the eligible Fine Arts qualifications in 2026
  • Must have achieved at least a 65% average in the 2025 academic year
  • Must be accepted into an accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Must demonstrate financial need and lack the means to study without a scholarship

How to Apply for the SARB Scholarship

Applicants may apply using either of the following methods:

Option 1: Apply online via the TTI Bursary platform
Option 2: Download and complete the application form in PDF format

Submit the completed application form and all supporting documents via:

When applying, use the promotional code SARBARTS26. Include the following supporting documents in PDF format:

  • Certified copy of your South African ID document
  • Academic transcripts for 2024 and 2025 (on institutional letterhead)
  • Proof of acceptance from a recognised tertiary institution (including student number)
  • 6 to 8 images of your artwork created in 2024 and 2025
  • Artist statement (max 300 words), covering your background, artistic journey, why you deserve the scholarship, and your financial need

Incomplete applications or those missing any required documents may be disqualified.
