About the Bursary Provider
The Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture is mandated under South Africa’s Constitution and provincial development frameworks to drive rural development, land reform, and food security within the Eastern Cape.
Fields Covered
For the 2026 academic year, this bursary supports full-time study in the following undergraduate degrees:
- Agricultural Engineering / Bio-Resource Engineering (BSc Degree)
- Veterinary Technology (BHSc Degree)
Expenses Covered & Service Obligation
The bursary fully covers: registration and tuition, accommodation and meals, and prescribed textbooks. It does not cover outstanding or historical debts. Recipients are required to serve the Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture for a period equal to the duration of their study funding.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Currently in Matric or have completed Matric/NCV
- Meet subject requirements:
- For Agricultural Engineering/Bio-Resource Engineering: Mathematics and Physical Science
- For Veterinary Technology: Life Science, Physical Science, and Mathematics
- Be unemployed and in financial need (household income ≤ R350 000, or ≤ R600 000 if living with a disability)
- Be studying or planning to study at a registered South African HE institution
- Preferential consideration is given to unemployed youth from historically disadvantaged groups residing in the Eastern Cape, although applicants from other provinces may also apply

Required Documents
- Certified ID copy
- Latest Matric/NCV results or certificate
- Full academic record (if currently studying)
- Proof of admission or registration at a recognized institution
- Proof of residence (less than 3 months old)
- Parents’ or guardians’ ID and proof of household income (payslips, affidavit, or social grants)
- Proof of any other bursary or sponsorship, if applicable
- Youth with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply
Closing Date
10 November 2025. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
