About the Bursary Provider

The Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG) provides services and creates laws for residents in the province. It works alongside the national government and municipalities to ensure access to services and facilities.

NCPG Bursary Programme – Fields Covered

The NCPG Provincial Transversal Bursary Programme for 2026 is open to students residing in the Northern Cape. Bursaries are awarded for studies in scarce and critical skills fields, including hard-to-fill vacancies in the public and private sectors. Priority is given to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

Bursary Coverage & Value

The bursary covers registration fees, tuition fees, books, and accommodation. The total value is determined by household income:

  • Household income R0–R350,000: maximum bursary R120,000
  • Household income R350,001–R550,000: maximum bursary R100,000
  • Household income R550,001–R800,000: maximum bursary R80,000
    The bursary does not cover outstanding or pre-existing study debt.

Selection Process

Successful candidates will be contacted by 27 February 2026. Recipients must enter into a contractual agreement with the Northern Cape Provincial Government.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must satisfy all of the following:

  • South African citizen
  • Unemployed
  • Reside in the Northern Cape province
  • Aged 18–30
  • Currently in Matric or completed Matric
  • Studying or intending to study towards an undergraduate or first degree in one of the listed fields
  • Enrolled or accepted at a recognised public higher education institution in South Africa
  • Strong academic record
  • In financial need
    Preference is given to financially needy and academically deserving applicants.

  • Identity document
  • Latest Matric results (if currently in Matric)
  • Matric certificate (if completed)
  • Most recent academic transcripts
  • Proof of acceptance or provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution
  • Proof of registration at a tertiary institution
  • Curriculum plan of the intended field of study
  • SARS confirmation letters, proof of income, bank statements, affidavits, or other legal documents, depending on applicant status (employed, unemployed, self-employed, orphaned, fostered, etc.)
    All documents must be certified within the past 6 months.
