Eligibility Criteria

Actuarial Bursary

  • The applicant may be a South African citizen or a non-South African citizen.
  • The applicant must be studying in Matric and intend to study full-time toward an Actuarial Science qualification in 2024.
  • The applicant must be studying toward a full-time Actuarial Science qualification (1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of study).
  • The applicants currently in their undergraduate degree must demonstrate academic achievements and a will to succeed.
  • The applicants currently in their matric degree must have a minimum of 90% in Mathematics and an overall A symbol. That said, their final Matric results will be used as the determining factor. Apart from this, they must also be able to prove their excellent skills in Mathematics, ability to solve problems, and commitment to pursue their studies.

Do note that preferences will be given to students from the following designated groups: African, Colored, and Indian South Africans.

IT Bursary

  • The applicant must be studying in Matric and intend to study full-time toward an IT degree.
  • The applicants currently in their matric degree must have a minimum of 70% in Mathematics and an overall A symbol in Matric.
  • The applicant must be passionate about innovation, possess the ability to solve problems and be committed to pursuing their studies.

  • Comprehensive curriculum vitae. It should emphasize your academic achievements, extra-mural activities, and leadership roles.
  • A motivational letter answering the following five questions: What does an actuary do? Why do you want to pursue the degree? Why do you think you can become an actuary? Why are you a perfect candidate for the Sanlam bursary? And your alternative career path in case you are unable to pursue this career path.

For IT Bursary

  • Grade 11 academic transcripts or final results (copies only).
  • Matric mid-year results (copies only).
  • Comprehensive curriculum vitae. It should include your academic achievements, extra-mural activities, and leadership roles.
  • A motivational letter. It should answer the following five questions: Why do you want to pursue the degree? What is your ideal work role or position? Why are you a perfect candidate for the Sanlam bursary? Why are you suitable to excel in the field?
