Who Can Apply

The GCRA bursary is available to South African citizens between the ages of eighteen and thirty‑five who live in the Gauteng province and have completed Matric or are already registered for study. Applicants must have been accepted into, or be registered at, an accredited institution such as a public university, private college or a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college.

While the bursary supports students in any field of study, preference is often given to learners whose chosen qualifications align with strategic growth sectors identified in the Gauteng Growth and Transformation Plan (GGT2030), including areas like information technology, engineering, finance, transport and hospitality.

There are also special qualifiers who may automatically qualify for the bursary, provided they still submit an application. These include top achievers from schools in Gauteng, top learners from no‑fee paying schools, and the top three learners from Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN) schools in the province.

Applying for the GCRA bursary is done online through the official GCRA bursary portal. Prospective applicants must first create an account, complete their personal and academic information, and upload supporting documents before the stated deadline.

Typical documentation required includes:
