About the Bursary Provider
Monocle is a management consulting firm specializing in banking and insurance, founded in 2002 with offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, London, and Amsterdam. The Monocle Foundation, launched in 2014, supports tertiary education for previously disadvantaged black South African female students pursuing relevant fields.
Fields Covered
The bursary is available for previously disadvantaged black female South African students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, studying fields including but not limited to accounting, computer science, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, and medicine.
Bursary Coverage & Selection
Recipients receive a comprehensive funding package that includes full tuition fees, book and study material allowance, a laptop, accommodation, and subsistence allowance. Additional support includes career counseling and a free Microsoft Office course. There are no repayment or work-back requirements. Applicants undergo a multi-stage selection process: telephonic screening, a personal meeting, and a trustee interview. Shortlisting occurs in November 2025 with final outcomes by mid-December 2025.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be black women (African, Coloured, Indian, or Asian)
- Have completed Matric
- Be in their second year or higher of undergraduate or postgraduate study
- Be enrolled at a recognized, accredited South African tertiary institution
- Demonstrate financial need with little to no other funding
- Not currently receiving any other bursary support
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online. When asked how you heard about the bursary, enter “bursariesguru.co.za.” Required supporting documents include a certified ID copy, Matric certificate, academic transcripts, postgraduate degree (if applicable), a detailed funding breakdown, CV, and a motivation letter addressed to the trustees outlining personal background, career ambitions, field of study, and reasons for applying.
Closing Date
Applications must be submitted before 8 November 2024. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
